¡AVE! is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization based in Houston, Texas, dedicated to providing companionship and support to people who are ill, older adults, individuals with physical and visual disabilities, and families facing difficult circumstances.
We are a community of more than 80 members and volunteers united by one shared belief:
No one should face illness, disability, or loneliness without companionship, dignity, hope, and support.

¡AVE! was created from the desire to be present for people when they need someone the most.
Our organization brings together individuals with disabilities, volunteers, families, and community members who transform their own experiences into opportunities to help others.
Our mission is to provide companionship, support, and encouragement to people facing illness, disability, isolation, or difficult circumstances while promoting dignity, inclusion, solidarity, and hope.

We hope to continue growing so we can reach more hospitals, homes, individuals, and families throughout the Houston area and surrounding communities.

Companionship and Visits for the Ill
The heart of AVE. Volunteers visit people who are ill in hospitals, homes, rehabilitation centers, and other places where presence can offer companionship and hope.

Medical Supplies and Equipment🦽
We distribute donated medical equipment and supplies “free of charge when available, including wheelchairs, medical beds, walkers, canes, adult diapers, catheters, urinary bags, and other items.”

Wheelchair Repair and Maintenance🔧
When resources allow, we assist with minor repairs, adjustments, component inspections, and certain batteries for power wheelchairs.

Workshops and Skill Development🎸
We offer activities for individuals with physical and visual disabilities, including guitar classes, arts and crafts, handmade soap making, costume jewelry, balloon art for children. etc.

Education and Community Meetings🤝
We hold community meetings featuring educational presentations, information about community resources, testimonials, fellowship, shared meals, and monthly birthday celebrations.

Recreation and Culture🎭
When possible, we organize activities at museums, zoos, parks, movie theaters, and other community spaces to promote inclusion, connection, and well-being.

Our Impact
The impact of ¡AVE! cannot be measured by numbers alone. It can be seen in every visit, every family that finds companionship, every wheelchair that reaches someone who needs it, and every volunteer who gives their time.
One of the images that best represents our organization is people with disabilities helping one another — individuals who, despite facing their own challenges, find a way to reach out and support someone else.
